Senior Lecturer in Marine Ecology

The department of Marine Ecology has about 90 employees working in three very inspiring places of great natural beauty: the Botany house, situated within the Botanical garden in Gothenburg, and at the University of Gothenburg’s two research station at Kristineberg and Tjärnö. The Depart-ment has a strong and internationally recognized research profile within both basic and applied research. The research is organized in eight research areas: Chemical ecology, Fish, shellfish and aquaculture, Functional and structural dynamics in benthos, Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) and conservation biology, Molecular ecology, evolution and genomics, Pelagic ecology, Stress and global change biology, Theoretical ecology and modelling. The research activity is mainly based on externally funded projects.

The Department of Marine Ecology teaching activities is mainly within the biology programme and the programme of marine sciences. The Department also runs several Internet-based orienta-tion courses.
The department has been in an expanding phase the last two years with an increased funding for research and for that reason we now see the opportunity to recruit two senior lecturers.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research in marine ecology. The appointee is expected to develop and conduct independent research that will strengthen existing research areas at the department. The appointee is also expected to develop collaborations with other researchers at the department, as well as international and national research collaborations. Further responsibilities include super-vision of degree projects and supervision of PhD students. To apply for external funding for research, individually and in combination with other teachers and researchers, from national and international funding agencies is an important task. Applied research through contracts can be part of the duties. The appointee is expected to teach, coordinate and develop courses offered by the department, on basic, advanced and postgraduate level. Outreach activities are also part of the responsibilities.

Qualification requirements
The qualification requirements as stated in the Higher Education Ordinance are applied for the position. An additional requirement is ability to teach in Swedish or English. The successful applicant is expected to teach in Swedish within two years.
