IWOMA 2012 From Molecular Principles to Biogeochemical Impacts

Following the first successful IWOMA in 2006, we are happy to provide the platform for a second workshop, with many active international researchers in the field of marine aggregates. During the workshop, we’d like to wrap up the most significant recent results and the most promising in situ, laboratory, and modeling approaches to study the biogeochemical and ecological role of macroscopic aggregates in the ocean. Discussions should help to identify new developments and concepts for a more detailed and refined understanding of the functional role, fate and interactions of aggregate-associated microorganisms. The workshop is open for all scientists interested in this field and all workshop participants are invited to contribute to the discussion on talks given by the invited speakers. All participants are encouraged to also present their recent studies on marine aggregates in a POSTER session. Sigue leyendo

International Meeting on Oceanic Islands: Volcanoes & Society

 10-15 October 2012
El Hierro, Canary Islands, Spain

The International Workshop on Oceanic Island Volcanoes & Society: El Hierro 2012  is an international volcano meeting for commemorating the 1st anniversary of the 2011-12 submarine eruption off the southern coast of El Hierro (Canary Islands, Spain). This workshop is planned as an international forum for specialists working on active volcanic islands to discuss about reducing volcanic risk. Many oceanic and active volcanic islands are facing higher levels of vulnerability and exposure to more risk because of increasing population. Therefore, island communities need to conduct a systematic program for volcanic islands by assessing the risk of future volcanic activity and its effects as well as implementing all the recommended actions for reducing volcanic risk.
