The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht is investigating the natural physical and biogeochemical dynamics of the coastal ocean and the impact of anthropogenic influence. The research topics span interdisciplinary process studies to the operation of the automated marine observing and forecasting system COSYNA (Coastal Observing System for Northern and Arctic Seas, We invite applications for a Scientific manager (m/f) for strategic-scientific project planning and realisation in support of the new institutional director Prof. Burkard Baschek. The position is initially limited for three years (starting as soon as possible).

We search for a qualified scientist, who will help to develop and shape the new strategic direction of the division “Operational Systems”, identify innovative research topics and instrumentation, intensify collaborations with scientists and institutions in a national and international interdisciplinary context, foster personnel recruitment, assist in scientific and financial project management, and manage selected projects (such as COSYNA), while maintaining an active scientific engagement.

Your tasks include:

strategy development observing key scientific questions as well as current and future developments in relevant scientific and user frameworks on global, regional and local scales scientific planning, administration, and realisation of national and international projects, including COSYNA lead of project team(s) for project planning and execution; controlling of scientific, technical and administrative tasks event management (meetings, workshops, conferences) with support by the institutional secretary building of a strong scientific network with national and international partners and users development of strategies for personnel recruitment communication of scientific results to the scientific community, knowledge users, and general public, with support by the HZG public relations department; establishment of new communication concepts Job requirements:

a PhD in oceanography, geoscience, or related disciplines extensive experience in observational oceanography experience in project management and as team leader good knowledge of English (written and oral) good communication skills and ability to work in a team The following qualifications would be desirable:
