Salary: JPY 4,560,000 per year
A full-time postdoc position, starting immediately but negotiable (ideally starting by April 2013 at latest), is available until March 2016 at maximum, at Faculty of Environmental Earth Science, Hokkaido University, Japan. A successful candidate will work under the project “Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology (CREST)” run by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Responsibility of a successful candidate includes assimilation of satellite data into a 3D marine ecological/biogeochemical model coupled with the ocean dynamics model. The successful candidate is expected to work as a team with remote sensing scientists, modelers and field and laboratory scientists, thus there will be opportunities to interact with scientists having a range of different backgrounds.
Applicants must have an experience in data assimilation and hold PhD by the start of the job, in geosciences, engineering, computer sciences, mathematics or any relevant fields. A strong background of computer programming as well as a good communication skill is required. An experience in super-computing is advantageous, although not mandatory.
