Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Aquaculture Service (FIRA) and the direct supervision of a Senior Aquaculture Officer (Economics, Policy, Planning and Governance), the incumbent will contribute to the Service’s work on social, economic, policy and governance aspects of aquaculture development.

DURATION : Fixed Term: 3 years
In particular, the incumbent will:
Collect and analyse economic, socio-economic and institutional data with the aim of producing information needed in developing and implementing policies, strategies and plans for sustainable aquaculture development; prepare detailed micro-economic, investment and /or social studies and reports on aquaculture planning and development issues; provide support to or participate in the preparation and delivery of workshops or other technical meetings aimed at contributing to sustainable development of aquaculture, especially in developing countries; formulate and provide technical backstopping of FAO field projects on aquaculture economics, policies, strategies and plans; advise FAO Member countries in the development and implementation of policies, strategies and plans for sustainable aquaculture development; perform other related duties as required by supervisors.
Candidates should meet the following:
Advanced university degree in Aquaculture Economics, Agricultural Economics, Resource Economics or Economics Five years of relevant experience in the application of micro and macro-economic analysis techniques to natural resource use and/or management, out of which at least 3 years in the field of aquaculture. A Ph.D. may substitute for up to 2 years Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Russian, Arabic or Chinese
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
- Relevance and level of academic qualifications .
- Relevance and extent of experience in applying economic theory to aquaculture management and development .
- Extent of experience in developing and implementing aquaculture development policies, strategies and plans .
- Depth of knowledge of current global issues, in particular social, economic and institutional issues, in relation to management, development and governance of aquaculture .
- Demonstrated skills and ability to effectively communicate in English and French, both in writing and orally.
