Research Technician / Fellow

Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate in Physical Oceanography, to support the research and teaching of academic staff in the Physical Oceanography research group, with a focus on computer programming. Research activities to be supported include numerical modelling of ocean circulation and observational campaigns to measure key physical ocean processes. Teaching activities to be supported include classroom computing practicals, oceanographic fieldwork, and student research projects, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

We seek applicants with high expertise in computer programming and/or high-performance computing support. You will have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and preferably some experience of relevant research in one of two broad areas: running numerical models of the ocean circulation, or making observations at sea with oceanographic instruments.A PhD in a relevant field is desirable.

This is a fixed-term position for 36 months with possibility of extension, in the Physical Oceanography Research Group of Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton. We are located dockside at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton.
