Marine Policy Specialist

The postholder will be required to provide marine policy specialist knowledge to supplement skills already within the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Studies. The postholder will:  

•Have an intimate knowledge of the designation of marine protected areas, marine conservation zones and marine spatial planning within the context of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the UK Marine & Coastal Access Act.

•Be able to consider the uses and users of the marine space and the potential and actual impacts of human activities and have an ability to design and implement decision support software which link these impacts to the habitats and species of conservation importance.

•Be able to consider and assist in the development and implementation of the indicators for the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive and in monitoring frameworks at the regional, national, European and international levels. •Be able to interact with stakeholders and present information to stakeholder, industrial users, regulatory and academic audiences.

•Be able to source research grant and consultancy proposals and respond to these by writing applications with a view to obtaining funding.
