Migratory (Diadromous) and Marine Fish Advisor

We are seeking applications for a Migratory (Diadromous) and Marine Fish Advisor in the Marine Scotland Science Freshwater Fisheries Team based in Pitlochry. The team provides research and advice in support of Scottish Government policies in relation to freshwater and diadromous fish. The post will also work closely with the Offshore Energy Environmental Advice (OEEA) Group within the Science Operations Team at the Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen. The work of this post will be primarily within the Marine Renewable Energy Programme (MREP).

Duties include the provision of expert advice and leadership on migratory (diadromous) and marine fish issues in the context of consenting and licensing in the Marine Scotland areas of marine renewable energy development and marine spatial planning. You will Develop and maintain an up to date knowledge base on the ecology of diadromous and marine fish and their potential interactions with Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) developments. You will also Prepare fish aspects of Habitat Regulation Appraisals (HRA) and appropriate assessments (AA) in support of Marine Licence applications for marine renewable energy, in collaboration with the Licensing Operations Team. You will have a PhD (Fish Ecology, Fisheries or an environmental science field) and post-graduate research / work experience in a scientific or regulatory role related to fish, fisheries or environmental science; or at least a BSc and evidence of significant experience and success working in a scientific or regulatory role related to fish, fisheries or environmental science. You will have the Ability to independently produce rigorous and high quality scientific documents and a publication record commensurate with experience, with evidence of an ability to produce written outputs independently to a standard appropriate for publication in respected peer-reviewed journals.
