Are you interested in protecting marine biodiversity and helping society use the marine environment in a sustainable way? Do you have the scientific background and experience needed to work in this field for an independent adviser to Government?
JNCC advises Government on UK and international nature conservation and is looking to expand its Marine Directorate, at twin locations in Peterborough and Aberdeen. With exciting developments in its portfolio, JNCC is increasing its capacity to give advice on the assessment, monitoring and management of the marine environment, and is looking to recruit at least 10 new staff.
Broad relevant marine knowledge and experience are essential, but we’re also looking for some specialist skills and knowledge for some posts, such as
•an understanding of UK marine habitats and how to assess their quality and condition
•knowledge of marine nature conservation policy and legislation
•experience in survey planning, and participation in offshore surveys, including interpretation of acoustic data and acquisition of biological and physicochemical samples
•knowledge of the range of pressures from human activities and their impact on the marine environment
•proficiency in GIS
•skills in the use of databases
•knowledge of industry activity, such as renewable energy, aggregate extraction, oil and gas exploitation and fisheries in the UK offshore area
•knowledge of underwater sound and its effects on marine life
•seabird and/or cetacean ecology and data analysis.
