Marine and Fisheries Lawyer

The world’s oceans are in crisis. Existing legal frameworks are failing to protect the marine environment. Without adequate marine protection, commercial fisheries could collapse and ecosystem stability will seriously deteriorate.

Now is an exciting time for oceans management. The Common Fisheries Policy is undergoing reform, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive is being implemented, and marine protected areas are being established and enforced.

ClientEarth is a unique, multi-discipline and cutting-edge organisation of experts. We bring together law, science and policy to create practical solutions to challenging environmental issues in Europe and beyond.

We have an opportunity for a junior to mid-level lawyer (NQ to 5 years PQE) to join our Biodiversity team in London and have a positive impact on the critical issues our oceans face through working on fisheries and the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy.
Project Description: Reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy.

ClientEarth’s Biodiversity team is working intensively on the new CFP as it completes its passage through the European Parliament and Council, aiming to secure legislation that delivers sustainable and ecosystem based fisheries management and ends overfishing. We have developed clear and detailed recommendations on what the new legislation must contain. For the next two years, we will be working with European lawmakers to secure a sustainable future for fisheries.
