The National Oceanography Centre (NOC), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is one of the top five institutions in the World delivering integrated marine science and technology. With sites in Southampton and Liverpool, it is the UK’s leading centre for coastal and deep ocean research and technology development. The Centre, at Southampton, represents a collaborative partnership with the University of Southampton’s School of Ocean and Earth Science (OES); this partnership is underpinned by the Graduate School of NOCS, which, with over 200 PhD students, represents one of the largest postgraduate marine science communities in the World –http://noc.ac.uk/gsnocs.
The NERC Directorate of Science and Technology at the NOC contains five research groups. Our science has high socio-economic impact and tackles many of the major environmental issues of immediate concern to both Government and public. We are now looking to recruit two high-quality candidates to open-ended posts to strengthen and expand our research in the Marine Geoscience group. http://noc.ac.uk/science-technology/research-groups/mg
Our current research is focused on submarine geohazards and clastic sedimentology, shallow geophysics, fluid flow geochemistry and seafloor and habitat mapping, but we also welcome applicants that can bring new areas of expertise to the group.
These posts are being offered at NERC Bands 4 to 6 (indicative salaries provided below). Successful candidates will be expected to develop and implement a novel, imaginative and world-class research programme, supported by external funding. Candidates for higher grades will have a strong track record of scientific leadership and funding from diverse sources, e.g. research councils, the EU, or industry.
General enquiries regarding these posts should be directed to Dr Russell Wynn, Head of Marine Geoscience (e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org). These posts will be offered on NERC terms and conditions, with indicative salaries at Band 6 (Staff Scientist) being £26,180 to £29,410 per annum; Band 5 (Senior Staff Scientist) being £30,710 to £37,120 per annum and Band 4 (Principal Staff Scientist) being £36,240 to £48,230 per annum (depending upon experience).
